Ashanti Region: 11-year-old boy drowns in river Owabi at Akropong

An 11-year-old boy has drowned in River Owabi at Akropong in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of the Ashanti Region.
According to residents, about seven boys had gone swimming on Monday, October 5, 2026.
Three of them were drowned, but community members managed to rescue two alive.
Efforts to save the last boy proved futile, and he remained under the water.
The Assembly Member for the area, Hon. Andrews Kofi Nti, told OTEC News Reporter Kwame Agyenim Boateng that the boy was found dead a day later.
“After learning of the incident, traditional authorities in the community together with security officials went there, but we couldn’t locate him on that Monday”.
“Later Tuesday, we went back, performed rituals before locating the body.”He said
The Assembly Member noted that, police have since handed the body over to the family for burial
