Emena Cemetery destruction: Land developer has no building permit from the assembly- MCE

The Municipal Chief Executive Officer for Oforikrom in the Ashanti Region, Mr Abraham Antwi has disclosed that, the private developer who destroyed the cemetery of Emena community has no building permit from the assembly.
According to him, records from the assembly’s archives show the developer failed to apply for a building permit before constructing the house at the cemetery.
Residents of Emena were boiling with tension due to the destruction of a community cemetery by a developer.
The developer reportedly brought trucks to the site over on Saturday and destroyed some graves , claiming to have obtained a court order to work on the land.
As a result of this development, some buried bodies have been exhumed, causing alarm among residents.
The MCE in an interview with Captain Koda, host of the Kumasi based OTEC 102.9 FM’s morning show “Nyansapo”, on Tuesday July 11,2023, said the developer has breached the laws of the land, adding that the assembly will deal with the person accordingly.
He noted that, the assembly together with chiefs and security agencies in the community will ensure the right thing is done from both cultural and security perspective to maintain law and order in the community
Mr Abraham Antwi however warned that, private developers who have erected structures without permit will be sanctioned according to the law.
“The assembly has even issued a 3-month ultimatum to private developers to secure building permits before continuing with their constructions”.
“We will be forced to take court actions against them if they fail to apply for the permit”. He said
