
Hundreds of people in the Ashanti Region who thronged to the offices of the Electoral Commission of Ghana EC for the voter registration exercise were left stranded due to poor internet connectivity.

Slow network and internet connectivity challenges delayed the start of the Electoral Commission’s Limited Voters Registration exercise almost all centers across the Ashanti Region.
OTEC News’ Jacob Agyenim Boateng who reported from the Ashanti Regional office of the EC said the exercise was scheduled to begin at 7:00 a-m but delays in connecting the ECs online registration system at the center led to the exercise commencing as late as 12:00 P-m.
Some applicants including students in uniform who came to the center in the wee hours of Tuesday May 7, 2024 had to wait for long hours to get registered
Addressing the media however, the Ashanti Regional Director of the EC, Mr Benjamin Bannor Bio apologized to all applicants for the inconvenience caused
He said the technical team of the EC were working around the clock to get the problem fixed
He reiterated EC’s commitment to ensure all persons due to registration are captured in the voter register before the end of the exercise
Following the technical challenges, the Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah visited the regional EC’s office to get firsthand information about the problem.
He assured the public to his offices readiness to assist the EC in delivering on its mandate effectively and timely
He however called on all who have not been capture before on the voter register to make it a point and get registered.
