Election 2024: NDC’s call for voter register audit ‘disingenuous’ – NPP

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed shock and skepticism over the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) demand for a forensic audit of the voter register.

With electoral integrity at stake, the voter register controversy has become a pivotal battleground, testing the parties’ commitment to transparent and credible democratic processes.

At a press conference on September 19, 2024, NPP General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong questioned the NDC’s motives, citing their failure to provide evidence for their claims.

According to Frimpong, the NDC’s call for an independent body to audit the register is worrying, especially since they have not provided sufficient proof to substantiate their allegations.

The NPP official emphasized that the Electoral Commission (EC) has consistently ensured the integrity of the voter register.

He revealed that, the Electoral Commission (EC) had invited the NDC for a roundtable discussion on September 6, 2024, to address concerns, but the NDC reportedly ignored the offer.

Instead, they opted for street demonstrations, a move Frimpong described as an attempt to “throw dust in the eyes of Ghanaians.”

Frimpong reiterated the NPP’s commitment to transparent and credible electoral processes.

He urged the NDC to engage in constructive dialogue and provide concrete evidence to support their claims, rather than resorting to public demonstrations.
