Narendra Modi: Indian Prime Minister to receive Ghana’s highest national honour during 2-day state visit

The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi, will be conferred with Ghana’s highest national honour, the Order of the Star of Ghana, during a two-day state visit to the country beginning tomorrow.
The announcement was made by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, at a press briefing held on Monday, July 1, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Accra.
Prime Minister Modi’s visit marks the first time in 30 years that a sitting Indian leader is visiting Ghana. The trip forms part of efforts to deepen bilateral relations between Ghana and India, which have spanned over six decades.
As part of the official itinerary, Prime Minister Modi will be received by President John Dramani Mahama and is expected to address Ghana’s Parliament. The two countries will also sign several agreements and Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) across sectors of mutual interest.
The conferment of the Order of the Star of Ghana will take place during the visit, placing Prime Minister Modi among an esteemed list of global figures who have received the honour, including former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo, former French President Jacques Chirac, and Kenyan President William Ruto.
