Addai-Nimoh withdraws from NPP presidential race

Ing. Francis Addai-Nimoh, a former presidential aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has announced his decision not to contest the party’s presidential primary scheduled for January 31, 2026.

Addai-Nimoh cited several reasons for his withdrawal, including the inappropriate timing of the primary, the top-down approach to internal party contests, perceived bias of party executives towards one candidate, and the high cost of contesting.

The aspirant expressed concern over the GHS 4.6 million demanded from each aspirant, describing it as “unreasonable and unhealthy monetization of our internal politics.”

Despite his decision, Addai-Nimo in a press release on Wednesday August 27, 2025 wished all aspirants well in their campaigns and reaffirmed his commitment to the NPP and Ghana.

Addai-Nimoh’s withdrawal highlights the challenges faced by the NPP in its internal elections, with some party members criticizing the process as undemocratic.

The party will now proceed with its primary, featuring the remaining aspirants
