Photos: Asantehemaa’s body laid in state as thousands pay their last respects
The body of the late Asantehemaa was today, Monday, September 15, 2025, laid in state at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.
Thousands of mourners, including traditional leaders, government officials, and ordinary citizens, thronged the palace grounds to pay their final respects to the revered queen mother.
The solemn event was marked by traditional rites and deep cultural displays befitting the stature of the Asantehemaa, whose reign was widely admired for her dedication to the Ashanti Kingdom and her role in preserving its traditions.
Security was tight as mourners filed past in long queues, many dressed in black and red to symbolize grief and honor for the departed queen.
