Manhyia South MP pays tribute to El-Wak stampede victims, calls for urgent job creation

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Lawyer Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, has paid glowing tribute to the six Ghanaian women who tragically lost their lives during the recent recruitment stampede at the El-Wak Stadium in Accra.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, during the debate on the 2026 Budget, the MP described the deceased as “gallant young women whose only desire was to secure decent employment to support themselves and their families.”

According to him, the incident should serve as a national reminder of the urgent need to address the country’s unemployment challenges.

“We mourn these six gallant ladies who died in the line of hope—hope for jobs and a better life,”he said. “May their souls rest in perfect peace, and may God comfort their families in these difficult times.”

He also extended well-wishes to the injured survivors.“To those who were injured, I wish you a speedy recovery. The nation stands with you,”he added.

Touching on the broader unemployment situation, Lawyer Baffour Awuah expressed optimism about the future, stating that the next NPP administration would intensify job creation efforts.

He further urged the current government to prioritize opportunities for the youth. “We must do more. Government must create avenues for our teeming young people who are desperately seeking employment,” he emphasized.
