Kumasi–Accra Highway: 3 dead, 20 injured in fatal crash

Three people have been confirmed dead and 20 others injured in a fatal road crash that occurred at Odumasi Ohene Nkwanta, near Rider Steel and Iron Company on the Kumasi–Accra Highway.

The collision involved a Mitsubishi Outlander with registration number DV G8180 and a Benz Sprinter minibus registered GE 6024-22.

The Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service in the Ashanti Region, DOIII Peter Addai who confirmed the clash to OTEC news Reporter Kwame Agyenim said it occurred on Monday May 11, 2026.

According to officials, the Ghana National Fire Service rescue crew received a distress call at 7:55 a.m. and responded swiftly to the scene.

 By the time the crew arrived, 12 victims had already been rescued by bystanders.

The crew successfully rescued the remaining eight trapped persons.

“All 20 injured victims were transported to Hope Care Hospital, Asante Akim Central Municipal Hospital, and RIS Hospital by ambulance with registration GV 589-20 and other vehicles for emergency medical attention”.

The bodies of the three deceased males were retrieved and handed over to the MTTD Police for further action.

Both vehicles were severely damaged.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

The Service commended the rescue team led by LFM Tenkorang for their prompt response and professionalism.
