Members of the Ejisu Municipal Assembly have suspended their planned vote of no confidence against the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Jerryne Asante, following an intervention by President John Dramani Mahama.
The Assembly Members had issued a one-week ultimatum for the MCE to resign or be removed from office, citing what they described as serious administrative lapses under her leadership.
However, the deadline elapsed on Friday, July 31 without any action after the President constituted a committee, chaired by the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene, to conduct a fact-finding exercise into the concerns raised by the Assembly Members.
Speaking to NEWSMEN on Monday August 3, 2026 the Assembly Member for the Kwamo Electoral Area and spokesperson for the Assembly Members, George Kuntu Blankson, said they have put their intended action on hold while they await the outcome of the President’s intervention.
He explained that the committee’s work has provided an opportunity for the issues at the Assembly to be properly investigated before the Members take any further steps.
The Assembly Members had earlier planned to hold an emergency meeting to begin the process of passing a vote of no confidence against the MCE, but the exercise could not proceed after the Electoral Commission failed to make itself available to supervise the process.
The Assembly auditorium, which had been earmarked as the venue for the meeting, was also found locked. Some Assembly Members alleged that estate officers informed them the facility had been locked by the MCE’s personal aide, who had taken away the keys.
Kuntu Blankson said the Members remain committed to their concerns and are expecting the President to respond to their demands after the committee concludes its work.
“We are waiting on the President to act on our concerns this month. By the end of this month, if the President grants our wish, we will be satisfied. But if we do not hear anything by then, they will hear from us,” he said.
