A/R: Court grants 3 Asawase NDC activists GHS40K bail each

The Kumasi Circuit Court 4, on Wednesday, 11 November 2020, granted bail to three supporters of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), who were arrested in the Asawase constituency of the Ashanti Region in connection with some robberies.
Each suspect was admitted to a bail bond of GHS40,000 with three sureties, one to be justified each.
The suspects, Awudu Sule, aka ‘Scorpion’, Tawfiq Mohammed and Michael Atuguba, were charged with conspiracy to commit robbery and robbery.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The bail was granted after the counsel for the suspects, Annis Moghtari Mohahyideen, filed an application for bail.
The court, presided over by Her Honour Jacqueline Avotri, granted the suspects bail.
The case has been adjourned to Monday, 30 November 2020.
The NDC activists were arrested by the anti-robbery squad of the Ghana Police Service in front of the office of the Member of Parliament for the area, Mr Muntaka Mubarak, at Aboabo Post Office, after returning from campaign activities on Saturday, 25 October 2020.
The reason for their arrest was unknown but the Member of Parliament for the area said they were picked up for alleged robbery.
Addressing the media, Mr Mubarak said the arrested activists were not criminals.
The opposition MP bemoaned what, in his view, is the continuous intimidation of NDC supporters by the police as election approaches.
According to him, several members of the party in the constituency have been arrested on several occasions and granted bail without any tangible reason.
