Asafo Assemblyman fights malaria with clean up exercises

The Assembly member for Asafo Electoral Area in the Kumasi Metropolis, Hon. Ernest Okai, has embarked on communal activities in the effort in fighting malaria outbreak in his area.

Among the activities is the instituting of a monthly clean up exercise to clear choked gutters, stagnant waters and weedy environment.

As part of activities to celebrate Workers Day on Saturday, May 1, 2021, Hon. Okai, joined by the his Unit Committee members and residents, cleared all choked gutters at Asafo Bayakasoa.

The three hours exercise which started in the morning was successful as the area, which was considered as one of the breeding hub of mosquitoes, was cleared for smooth flow of liquid waste.

After the exercise, Hon Okai, who is a journalist, commended his fellow residents for embracing the exercise to improve their health wellbeing.

“Am most grateful to my people for the success of this exercise, I pray that this exercise will be sustain to make Asafo malaria free zone,” he commended the residents.

“Inasmuch as we the people of Asafo embark on this exercise, I implore other assembly members in Kumasi to do same to make the city clean from filth,” he added.

Hon. Okai advised residents to desist from indiscriminately disposal of solid waste to gutters and streets to avoid choked drainage systems.

The residents, in appreciation to the assembly member commitment to improve in their health conditions, promised to participate in all exercise to make the environment clean.

The exercise is the ninth one since elected as an assembly member for the area since December 2019.
