Ashanti Regional Minister assures census enumerators of adequate protection

The Ashanti Regional Minister Hon Simon Osei Mensah has urged the public to desist from treating officials of the 2021 Housing and Population Census as thieves.

Comments from the Chairman of the Security Council in the Region follows reports that some enumerators in the ongoing census were attacked by residents of Bonkrom Electoral Area in the Ahafo Ano North District of the region.

Although the Minster denied the assault report on census officials at Bonkrom Electoral area, he admitted that there were instances where some field officers of the Ghana Statistical Service were assaulted by civilians.

Addressing the media on Wednesday June 23, 2021 at the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, ahead of the commencement of the 2021 Population Census, Hon Simon Osei Mensah said adequate security have been put in place to protect both citizens and enumerators in the exercise.

“The enumeration of Ghanaians and foreigners would officially commence on Monday, June 28, but there would be a Census Night on Sunday, June 27, to count persons in transit and the homeless”, he said.

Mr Osei-Mensah pleaded with the people in the region to participate in the exercise to help the region get more developmental projects.
