Ben Nunoo Mensah elected President of GOC

Ghana Weightlifting Federation President, Ben Nunoo Mensah has been elected as the new Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) leader after ousting incumbent Prof. Francis Dodoo on Wednesday at the Alisa Hotel.

Nunoo Mensah had 33 votes with Dodoo getting 28 votes of the total beating the former Olympian by just five votes.

Dodoo, who has been at the helm of affairs of the Olympic governing body since 2011, was vying for a second term but has been dethroned by the former treasurer of GOC,.

Ahead of the elections the former school prefect of St Augustine’s College launched an ambitious campaign to lead the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) dubbed “The Renaissance – Let’s get our sports working again” it captured 19 key points he identified to revive Ghana sports.

In other portfolios Paul Atchoe has also been elected as the first vice, incumbent Richard Akpokavi retained his position as secretary general, Frederick Otoo Lartey elected as treasurer and will be deputized by Theophilus Wilson Edzi of the Swimming Federation.
