Shops in Kumasi central business district gutted by fire

Shops and goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis have been destroyed as fire gutted some shops at the Kumasi Central business district, close to the central market in the Ashanti region.
According to reports gathered by Otecfmghana.com the fire was brought under control by personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service after it destroyed over 15 other shops.
Several traders, according to reports were trapped in the market when the fire started but were all rescued by the police.
The cause of the fire, eyewitnesses say the fire started when an electric cable fell on a Kia truck which was off-loading mattresses cut through it, causing the cable to catch fire.
