Akyeamehene Donates to Prisons

The Akyeamehene of the Juaben Traditional Council in the Ejisu-Juaben Munucipality of the Ashanti region, Nana Appiagyei Dankawoso has donated items in kind and cash worth Ghs 5,000 to inmates of the Kumasi Central prisons.
Nana Appiagyei who is also the president of the Ghana chamber of commerce and industries, donated antiseptic soaps worth Ghs 3,000 and a cash amount of Ghs 2,000 to support the health and upkeep of the inmates at the prisons.
He told Otecfmghana.com that it has always been his heart’s desire to support the needy especially orphans, widows and prison inmates.
He appealed to individuals and organizations to also in their ”small way,” support the needy in the society.
The Ashanti regional commander of the Ghana Prisons Service, DDP Nii Boye Tagoe who received the donation on behalf of the inmates, thanked the Akyeamehene for the kind gesture and noted that governement alone cannot cater for the about 1750 inmates at the prison and would need the support of the public.
According to him it behoves on the general public to support the prisons service in rehabilitating inmates because most of them will soon be released from jail to live among us as neighbours and our peaceful coexistence will depend on it.
