KMA relocates transport operators
The Kumasi metropolitan assembly (KMA), as part of efforts to ease the congestion in the metropolis has began an exercise to relocate transport operators illegally using unapproved loading points.
The assembly as a result set up a seven member committee made up of representatives of transport operators, the KMA department of transport, urban roads, the transport sub-committee, the police service, leaders of petty traders and the KMA security liaison officer to help plan the exercise.
The committee after deliberations has settled on moving all western region bound stations from all unapproved loading points in the city centre back to the Afia Kobi market (Abinkyi) from today Thursday 24th, August, 2017 to continue their operation.
The Adehye market, Acheamfour Lorry Terminal, GPRTU regional Office, Pampaso among others were mentioned as some of the unapproved loading points of the western region bound routes in the central business district.
The committee has also been tasked to ensure that all transport activities in front of the Komfo Anokye Teaching hospital are moved away to address the congestion in that area.
The KMA is however assuring the general public that after the relocation of all western region bound stations, the assembly will relocate all other transport operators currently operating on the street to the race course upon the completion of the upgrading of the facilities at the race course.
The assembly is therefore entreating transport operators, traders and private terminal operators who will be affected by the directive to fully comply with the city authorities to make the Garden city a safe place.
”We are also by this announcement appealing to the travelling public to take note of the planned relocation exercise and fully co-operate”, the assembly said.
