A deputy minister for Communication, Hon. George Andah says deputy Agric minister, William Quaitoo must be celebrated and commended for his selfless decision to resign from his ministerial position.
According to him, he was surprised to hear about his colleague’s resignation especially after he had done the honourable thing by coming out to apologise for his ufortunate comments, adding that, ”I am very certain that he did it on his own free will.”
Deputy Minister of food and Agriculture, William Quaitoo who is also the Member of Parliament for Akim Oda in an interview on an Accra based radio station described people of the North as “difficult people” when discussing a controversial issue about the impact of the fall army worm in the Northern Region.
The minister after receiving public backlash and apologising, finally tendered his resignation to president Akufo-Addo on Tuesday.
But the Awutu Senya West MP believes the minister resigned in the interest of protecting the presidency, the party and in showing to the people of the 3 northern regions that he respects and values them by giving up the opportunity to serve as minister of State.
”I think that this is somebody that must be celebrated and commended for making such a decision because in the recent past, many people in authority have made worst comments without apologising or resigning from their positions”, he noted.
”I am saddened, but I think my brother has done the honorable thing, he has done the most descent thing, he has shown that he is a gentleman, he has shown that he respects and values all Ghanaians irrespective of tribe, and he has put his opportunity to serve as deputy minister on the line”, he stated.
He therefore wished him well and pledged to do anything possible to support him and his family, especially in these difficult times.
”We hope that this further action taken by the minister will appease the people of the 3 northern regions and we will also do anything possible to make them realize and know that we value everybody as a Ghanaian”, he concluded on an Accra based radio station.
