”Teachers are not professionals” – Former GES boss

Former Director General of the Ghana Education Service (GES), Mr. Michael Nsowa Agyei has stated that teachers are not considered professionals as believed by many Ghanaians.
According to him, doctors and lawyers are professionals because they are licensed.
“We are not professionals as everybody is saying. …the doctors and the lawyers are professionals so we must leave Dr. Opoku Prempeh to work”, he fumed.
His comments come after leadership of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT), claimed they are in oblivion and lack understanding on the yet to be introduced licensing examination for teachers, due to poor communication between the Education Ministry and the Association.
Mr. Michael Nsowa Agyei attacked the freedom of speech being abused by teachers asking them to shut up on the introduction of the policy
“If anybody says the minister is not following proper communication channels that person is just being untruthful”, the current chairman of the Education Council took a swipe at the teachers describing them as such.
Mr Nsowaa believes, Hon. Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh who is a medical doctor by profession is knowledgeable in the field of education and knows his work as Minister of Education.
“Anything he does is perfect leave him to implement the policy in the constitution”, Mr. Michael Nsowa Agyei told members of the National Association of Graduate Teachers (NAGRAT) on Abusua fm.
” If any body is saying he was kept in the dark on information about the licensing examination, that person can go into the teachers’ diary given him or her”, Mr. Michael Nsowa Agyei challenged.
NAGRAT president, Christian Addia-Poku alleged the association received no official communication from the Ministry of Education but got to know that teachers will be writing licensing examination in the media.
But commenting on the development, the retired educationist stated that nothing has gone wrong on the side of the minister of education.
