First lady, Mrs Rebecca Akufo Addo, has expressed excitement over the progress of work at the Mother and Baby Unit, funded by the Rebecca Foundation at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital in the Kumasi metropolis of the Ashanti Region.
The First Lady, who embarked on an inspection exercise on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 was glad that the project will be completed soon, according to schedule.
Mrs Akufo-Addo commended the contractor on the project, Africa Buildings Partners, for the work done, adding: “I’m overwhelmed. I didn’t expect anything like this.”
She said she saw the drawings of the project, but did not expect that “this is how it would turn out and I’m really overjoyed on what I have seen today”.
The First Lady noted that government could not do everything since all the hospitals in the country are in need, and that is why she funded the project through her foundation.
The block, which is 70 per cent complete, is expected to be ready by November this year.
“I can’t wait to come and launch it very, very soon, so be ready, I will be back,” she said.
She thanked Ghanaians for their contributions towards construction of the project and appealed for more support.
“It hasn’t been done yet, so, keep it coming, keep the cheques coming, we need more to finish it and there is more work to be done,” She added.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah, presented GHS120,000 to the First Lady on behalf of the Regional Co-ordinating Council and the various Metropolitan, Municipal & District Assemblies (MMDAs) in the region as their contribution towards the construction of the health facility.
He commended the First Lady for her efforts towards quality health care delivery in the region.
