KMA to Prosecute Landlords over toilet facilities – KMA Boss
The chief executive officer of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly, Mr. Osei Assibey Antwi has disclosed that the Assembly will soon take legal action against landlords who have converted toilet facilities into rooms for rent.
Speaking at the ministry of information’s town hall meeting at Tafo in Kumasi, Hon. Assibey disclosed that the assembly has set up a taskforce to inspect and report such cases for culprits to be put before an environmental court for prosecution.
Town Hall Meetings are decentralized means of giving the members and leaders of the various communities nationwide, the opportunity to get together to discuss the progress and emerging issues of both the Central and Local Government.
Against this backdrop, Kumasi’s edition brought together many personalities including Tafohene Nana Agyin Frimpong, Mayor of Kumasi Osei Assibey Antwi, District Information director for Adansi South Kusi Oboadum and many others.
Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi further stated that the Assembly will be embarking on a public education on the exercise before it starts.
According to him, it is the responsibility of every landlord to provide tenants with proper toilet facilities and advised that the conversion of toilet facilities into rooms for rent purely infringes the Assembly’s bye-laws.
He therefore intimated that the Assembly has decided to assist about 500 houses with toilet facilities.
Nana Agyin Frimpong, Tafohene also underscored lawlessness as the bane of developmental in the metropolis and pledged support for the Leadership of the country as Nananom did for Asanteman which has brought Asanteman this far.
The Ministry of Information is holding Town Hall Meetings in all the 216 Districts and at the Metropolitan and Municipal levels to bring the entire nation up to speed on major Government policies, programs and to obtain feedback from the citizenry for the Development and Governance process across the nation.
