It will be politically suicidal to reinstate Kwabena Agyepong – Obiri Boahene

Deputy General Secretary of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Lawyer Obiri Boahen has observed that it will politically suicidal to reinstate suspended General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.

The NPP handed indefinite suspension to its Second Vice Chairman, Mr.  Sammy Crabbe, National Chairman, Mr. Paul Afoko alongside the General Secretary Mr. Kwabena Agyapong  in 2015 after they were accused of publicly rebelling against the party.

Messrs Paul Afoko and Sammy Crabbe subsequently filed a suits to challenge their suspension, but both suits were thrown out by competent the court jurisdiction.

Speaking in an interview with OTECNEWS, Lawyer Obiri Boahen categorically stated that the reinstatement of Kwabena Agyapong is not a number priority of the Party, as there are more pressing issues confronting the party which demands immediate attention.

“Why don’t you also say that the party has won power and so why do we need their services? So to reinstate or not to reinstate is not number one priority for the party, but let me conclude by saying that it will be politically suicidal for the party to do any reinstatement. With my experience in politics, it will be politically suicidal for the party to do that. I will not explain further but it is politically suicidal to do that because the issue is very dicey,” he asserted.

The maverick politician believes that it is the priority of the party to make some constitutional amendments on the operations of the executives; as well as the construction of an ultra modern party headquarters just as the NDC has done but not the reinstatement of the suspended trio.

However, some party supporters of the NPP have petitioned the National Executive Committee (NEC) for the reinstatement of the embattled party Chief Scribe because they believe Mr Agyapong has conducted himself well.

“I don’t speak for National Executive Committee, I don’t speak for National Council the party is purely a constitutional so if you want to do something you have to petition the National Executive Committee and the NEC will transfer the matter to the National Council,” Obriri Boahen answered.
