Kumasi: “Boolaho” traders protest against market demolition (Photos)
Some traders at Boolaho market in the Kumasi Metropolis have hit the streets to protest a planned demolition of their shops at the market by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).
The traders are demonstrating over what they described as ill treatment by KMA to forceful evict them from a place they make their living.
Clad in red and black outfits and chanting war songs, the traders went to the Manhyia Palace to appeal to the Asantehemaa, Nana Ama Konadu, to intervene in the matter.
According to them, they were not informed by the KMA about the terms and conditions of the demolition, a situation they have described as sheer disrespect to them.
Some of the irate traders told Otec news’ reporter, Jacob Agyenim, that the Boolaho market has been the only source of their livelihood for many years, adding that evicting them with no permanent place to go means they are going to die of hunger.
The demonstration ended at the Abbey’s park where the traders presented their petition to the Manhyia Sub Metro authorities.
Some other trades also expressed their dismay about the intended action by the KMA and have therefore called on President Akuffo Addo to immediately come to their aid.
