Irate Drivers bang hard on Akufo-Addo over fuel price increase

Some driver unions and transport owners in the country have raised red flags at the President Akufo –Addo”s led government over recent fuel price increments.
According to the drivers’ Unions they are disappointed in the ruling government for subjecting drivers to undue pressure with her hash policies in the transport industry.
They insist President Akufo-Addo in the build – up to the 2016 elections pledged to make Ghana a safe haven for drivers but has rather turned against them.
The raging drivers turned to the media after the Chamber of Petroleum Consumers (COPEC) confirmed a four percent increase in fuel prices at most filling stations in the country. The Executive Secretary of COPEC – Ghana, Duncan Amoah earlier confirmed the increment in fuel prices. The price hike is a sharp contradiction to the announcement made by the National Petroleum Authority those prices of LPG and Petrol at the pumps would remain unchanged from January 1, 2018.
In an interview with Otec News, the spokesperson for True Drivers Union Yaw Barimah bemoaned the decision of Driver and Vehicle Licencing Authority DVLA to impose on Motorists the mandatory first aid kit at the cost of 108 Cedis without consulting the driver unions in the country.
Yaw Barimah explained that, the government is taking 14.5 cedis as taxes out of the 21 cedis price charged for one liter of fuel at the pumps. He added that the four percent increment will cash 15.5 cedis for government. This Mr Barimah said is killing the transport industry.
The spokesperson in a conversation with otec news noted that, driver unions in 2016 elections worked assiduously to ensure Akufo-Addo won but was sad that Akufo-Addo, after becoming president has resorted to abusing drivers in the country.
