ISIS Grenade: We’re in charge, be calm – IGP

Inspector General of Police, David Asante-Apeatu, has allayed fears of Ghanaians that terrorist attacks in Ghana were imminent following the arrest of three suspects who had grenades and other explosives in their possession.
The suspects were arrested on Monday, 15 January 2018 based on police intelligence.
One suspect is believed to have ties with terrorist group ISIS in Libya.
Briefing the press on the matter at the police Headquarters in Accra on Tuesday, 16 January 2018, the IGP said police investigations seek to find out if the suspects have any linkage with any terrorist group in the world.
“You might have read the press release issued by the Director General in charge of Public Affairs Department that the police has seized some objects believed to be explosives. Let me state that we believe the objects to be grenades of some kind and investigation is underway to quickly establish the nature of the object seized.
“I wish to assure you and all Ghanaians as well as the international community to remain calm as we investigate this matter of police seizure. The seizure is a result of police intelligence operations. We are working together with the relevant agencies to get to the bottom of this matter. Our investigations seeks to answer questions such as: ‘Are these persons terrorists? Whether they have linkage with any terrorist group; how they obtain the object? Their sources, their potential allies and many more,” the IGP added.
All three suspects are currently being held at the Police Headquarters for interrogation and investigation.
