
Second Lady of the Republic of Ghana, Mrs. Samira Bawumia has added her voice to the assurance that government’s flagship free Senior High School policy will not compromise the quality of education.
Mrs. Samira Bawumai was delivering an address on behalf of the Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia at the 68th Speech and Prize Giving Day of Kumasi T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School (Real AMASS) in Kumasi on Saturday, 17th February 2018 under the theme “ensuring quality free senior high school education to the Ghanaian child, the role of stakeholders”.
She said the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) government under Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffo Addo believes that education is the bedrock for the development of every country hence the introduction of the free SHS policy to benefit everyone.
Mrs. Bawumia revealed that as a matter of priority, the government will focus on expanding the physical infrastructure in senior high schools to accommodate the anticipated rise of student numbers in the coming years.
She explained that the additional 40 million dollars government recently negotiated from the World Bank to support the Free Senior High School Policy, will be used to upgrade facilities in 75 Senior High Schools in the country, adding that government is continuing with physical works on the existing Community Day Schools in the country.
“Government is determined to ensure that the free SHS policy does not compromise quality education in any way and is working hard to ensure that any challenges facing the free SHS policy are resolved as soon as possible” the second lady stressed.
The Headmaster of T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School, Alhaj Yakub Abubakar said even though the school is touted as one of the best institutions in the country it does not countenance acts that will defeat the purpose for which it was established.
