The Ashanti Regional Director of National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Mr. Kwabena Nsenkyire, has announced his outfit is feverishly gearing up to embark on a massive tree planting exercise along streams and river banks to curb perennial flooding in the region.
The Ashanti Regional NADMO Director, who disclosed this during a meeting with a representative from Ghana’s High Commission to Canada, emphasized that if this approach was implemented well, heavy flooding could be reduced drastically.
According to the Assembly Member for Dechemso electoral area, Hon. Kwabena Nsenkyire people have encroached on water bodies in the region due to the absence of preventive measures around them.
“As I am speaking, negotiation is far advanced with the National Service Secretariats to give us 500 personnel in their next posting to embark on this exercise, NADMO is there to prevent disaster so let us all join hands together to achieve this goal” Mr. Nsenkyire noted.
“we are also communicating with the forestry commission to give us tree seedlings so we can begin this exercise” he added.
Hon. Kwabena Nsenkyire therefore appealed to the Canadian government to support NADMO with seedlings and planting equipment to do their job.
