SONA 2018: NDC no longer recognises Rawlings – Akufo-Addo
Founder of the main opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), Jerry John Rawlings, is no longer recognised by members of his own party, President Nana Akufo-Addo has said.
The president made the comment while acknowledging the presence of Mr Rawlings and two other former presidents in parliament as he began delivering his second State of the Nation Address on Thursday, 8 February, the president said.
Nana Akufo-Addo’s comment was a response to the Minority MPs who kept jeering at him when he recognised the presence of Mr and Mrs Rawlings in the chamber.
Nana Akufo-Addo said: “Mr Speaker that is the way of the world, the founder of the party is today no longer recognised by the members of his party.”
Some NDC members fell out with the Rawlingses in the lead-up to the 2016 general elections.
