Ahwiaa Clashes: 48 suspects arrested (Photos)

A total of forty-eight (48) suspects have been arrested over clashes between Muslims and Akans in the Ahwea community in the Kwabre East Municipality of the Ashanti region.
Public Relations Officer of the Ashanti regional Police Command ASP Juliana Obeng who spoke to OTECNEWS confirmed that one person died as a result of the clashes in the community.
According to Miss Julian Obeng, three persons sustained various degrees of injuries, including a teacher, who was sent to Tafo Government Hospital for treatments..
A combined military and police team has taken over the community to maintain law and order.
The development has brought trading and other social activities in the community to a standstill.
The deceased, Musah Kabore, was butchered when Asante youth group were rescuing an attacked female teacher of Big Six Remedial School in the area from a group of Zongo youth who had gone there to beat the teacher on reasons yet to be known.
The Assembly member for the area, Hon. Brenya K. Vasco, speaking in an interview with Otec News’ Nana Asare Barimah denied been a renew clash between the Zongo and Asante youth that happened last February this year.
“As I speak to you now we don’t know what actually brought about the fight which caused the death of Musah, but I can say that it is not a renew clash between the Zongos and the Asantes. We will definitely found out at the end of the day and those found guilty will be made to face the law,” he told Nana Asare Barimah.
His body has been conveyed to the Ankaase Methodist Faith Hospital mortuary.
