860 Community Police completes training in Kumasi (Photos)
A total of 860 community Police Assistant recruits have successfully completed training under the Community Safety and Security Innovation Module of the Youth Employment Agency (YEA) from the Police Training School at Patasi in the Kumasi Metropolis in the Ashanti region.
The youth, who will be given a two-year contract, will assist the Ghana Police Service in intelligence gathering and executing their duties as law enforcement officers.
The 860 Community Police Assistants (CPA),who are made up of 299 females and 561 males were taken through an intensive course in criminal law, criminal procedure among others
Addressing the parade at Patasi Police Depot, the Ashanti regional Minister Mr. Simon Osei Mensah stressed although the region is somehow peaceful, it is faces challenges with mob injustice, armed robbery, road accidents and among other vices that need aggressive strategy in fighting.
” I am commending the leadership of the Patasi police training school for able to train the CPAs and I also commend the CPAs for able to learn but I would like to advise them to not be like their senior police officers who have been engaging themselves in criminal acts, giving their uniforms as well as arms and ammunitions to criminals for robbery purposes” Ashanti regional minister advised.
He further disclosed majority of the Community Police Assistants (CPAs) will be enlisted into the main stream of the Police service when the need arises.
Speaking in an interview with OTEC news reporter Isaac Nsiah Foster, the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Charles Botwey Commanding Officer in charge of the Patasi Police Training School in Ashanti region cautioned the new CPAs against laziness, extortion and unpleasant behavior.
He warned them stay out of act that tarnish image of the police service.
ACP Charles Botwey advised the CPAs not to lord over the people they are going to serve in the community rather corporate with the Community members to ensure peace and safety.
