No bed syndrome: Hold govt responsible for Mr. Opoku Acheampong’s death -PADLoG

The Executive Director of the Platform for Action on Democracy and Local Governance (PADLoG), Alhaji Mohammed Kwaku Doku, says it is time Ghanaians hold political office holders accountable for their negligence that has led to the loss of precious lives and properties.

“The era when sheer negligence and partisan interest of public office holders had led to the loss of lives and properties only for officialdom to set up committees whose face saving post mortem reports will not bring back the dead should seize forthwith”.

Alhaji Mohammed Doku made the assertion in an interview with OTEC FM’s Agya Wusu Ansah concerning the shameful death of the 70-year old Opoku Acheampong.

Mr. Opoku Acheampong died because seven hospitals in Accra refused him medical care due to lack of beds.

“In our candid opinion, 21st Century Democratic Ghana should not sit quietly to witness such shameful deaths at a time when over six world class hospitals stuffed with over 2,500 beds are lying without inauguration in Accra just for parochial partisan reasons” Alhaji Doku stressed.

He further observed the minister of health and the Director General of the Ghana Health Service would have either resigned or had been sacked by now the death had occurred in a developed country.

According to Alhaji Mohammed Doku,  “Government is not prioritising health enough. This government just need to do something little considering what has been done by the previous government.”

He added: “The government is being irresponsible, we have a number of health professionals who are not being employed, doctors are sitting at home and we have health facilities completed but are not being used.

“So we have doctors complaining of unemployment, nurses are sitting at home, there are health facilities sitting down not being used.

He said PADLoG is at a loss why the University of Ghana Hospital, Police Hospital, Maritime (GHAPOHA) Hospital, the Bank of Ghana Hospital and the Teshie Hospital will be lying idle whilst innocent but poor Ghanaians are denied access to quality health care.

“We wish to call on President Akufo Addo’s government to set their priorities right by halting the wanton and careless dissipation of state funds and eschew parochial partisan governance” Alhaji Doku stated.
