KMA gives GHc367k to Persons with Disability

Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) has disbursed a total of Three hundred and fifty-six thousand, seven hundred and fifteen Ghana cedis, and forty-four pesewas (GHC 356, 715. 44) to Persons with Disability (PWD) within the metropolis to empower them to undertake economic ventures that would sustain their lives.

The disbursement, which was held at the forecourt of the KMA on Monday, June 25, 2018, comprising of equipments and cheques, forms part of common fund allocation arrears for Persons With Disability (PWD) for the 2016 fourth quarter and the 2017 first, second and third quarters.

The equipments range from deep freezers, shoe-making machines, industrial machines, computers, laptops, photocopy machine, printers among others, at the cost of One hundred thirty-six thousand, three hundred and ten Ghana cedis (GHC 136, 310).

The disbursement of the fund was made possible through a Committee set up, comprising of Metro Representative, National Council for Persons with Disability, Chairperson, Social Service Sub-Committee, Metro Director, Department of Social Welfare and Community Development, Metro Representative of Ghana Federation of Disability and Co-opted Technical Member from the Budget and Procurement Office, KMA.

The Metropolitan Chief Executive for the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi, in his speech commended the PWDs for exercising patience since 2016, having the faith in the President Nana Addo led government and assured them of prompt disbursement of their common fund allocation to empower them for their economic ventures.

“When you came here, I assured you that the money has been delayed because we wanted to do something for you that will be of great benefit for the future. Now we are all witnessing this for the time that all your needs have been addressed, and I assured you that more of this will come. All of you here will receive what you choose and wanted to do,” Mayor told the beneficiaries.

He pleaded with the beneficiaries to make good use of the assistance they have been offered and said “after here we will monitor you at your various destinations and access your performances, and if there is the need to add any assistance, we will provide. The monitoring team will link you to supportive banks for helps in book keeping and other business notes.”

Speaking in interview with Otec News’ Francis Appiah after the ceremony, Hon. Assibey Atwi said “appearing before the Committee, each of them showed what he or she wanted to do something to improve their welfare, some wanted to venture into other areas of business, other  wanted to buy wheel chairs, others for medical care and some to farther their education. And behold all their needs have been met, as you witnessed today.”

The Kumasi Metro President for the Ghana Federation of Disability, Prince Debrah, on behalf of the beneficiaries thanked government for a quick response to their grievances and promised to make good use of the equipments and cheques given them.
