Dr. Gideon Boako silences Adongo over depreciation of the cedi

The Spokesperson to the Vice President, Dr. Gideon Boako yesterday bedazzled the NDC MP for Bolga Central, Isaac Adongo when the two met on City Tv’s Point of View programme on the topic “Cedi Depreciation Politics” and to discuss other matters relating to Ghana’s economy.

Dr. Boako quoted facts and figures to substantiate his arguments on how the cedi has been faring over the past two decades.

He also gave detailed information on the rates of depreciation of the cedi against the dollar since President Kufuor’s era and showed that Mahama performed abysmally bad in that respect.

Often regarded as the messiah of economics in the opposition National Democratic Congress, Adongo was pitched against the young economist on the programme which had Bernard Koku Avle as host.

If Hon. Adongo had entertained the notion that he was going to bulldoze and dwarf Dr. Boako to the sidelines on set, that notion was soon to be dispelled as the latter exhibited a higher sense of intellectual understanding of Economics and economic management in relation to Ghana’s economy.

Adongo’s messianic bubble was soon deflated as he could not match Dr. Boako on the topic under discussion. He could not adduce facts to buttress claims he made. He was out of sorts with himself.

The Bolga Central MP found himself wanting when it came to a statement released by Casel Ato-Forson. He practically ran away from Hon. Ato-Forson’s statement in reaction to the Vice President’s response to former President John Dramani Mahama’s comments to the effect that the cedi has been depreciating at a rate faster than anticipated under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia administration.

Adongo was so confused that at a point in time he had to maroon the topic on the depreciation of the cedi to concentrate on politics. He veered off from the topic completely. This would prompt Bernard Avle to ask him if he wasn’t interested in the topic on the table.

Much to the consternation of viewers, Hon. Adongo said he was no longer interested in discussing the topic and would rather prefer talking about bread and butter issues.

The superior arguments advanced by the erudite financial economist and former lecturer of KNUST compelled Adongo to acquiesce that the Nana Addo-led Government has indeed done well in the management of the economy but he only sought refuge in using propaganda to suggest that such performance was as a result of the good foundation the erstwhile NDC built. Of course this propaganda was quickly dispelled by Dr. Boako.

Isaac Adongo sat through the discussion feeling discomfited. He appeared bruised due to his poor performance. Dr. Gideon Boako did indeed hypnotize the economic wizard of the NDC who appeared to be no match to the learned Spokesperson to the Vice President of the Republic.
