University of Ghana Medical Centre officially opens to public
The University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) has officially opened after intense public pressure.
The centre is expected to begin with the operationalisation of phase one, with about 30 medical staff.
This will allow the facility to receive referral patients at the Out Patients Department OPD from other satellite health facilities.
The facility was scheduled to open in November last year but could not, due to alleged tussle between the Ministry of Health and the University of Ghana over management of the 217 million dollar facility.
Meanwhile, parliament has approved credit and commercial facilities totalling €47 million to finance expansion works at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).
The credit facility of €40.6 million is between the government and Bank Hapoalim B.M., while the commercial facility of €6.5 million is also between the government and Bank Hapoalim B.M.
