TUTAG suspends indefinite strike
Members of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG) have suspended an indefinite strike they earlier declared over what the group described as salary discrepancies and unfair variances in conditions of service.
TUTAG took the decision at an emergency congress in Accra on Thursday, 27 September 2018.
The lecturers were unhappy that two years after six polytechnics were converted into technical universities, they are yet to be migrated to a befitting pay structure. Their strike halted academic activities on campuses.
National President of TUTAG, Dr Solomon Keelson told Class News that the government appears to be working on a set of agreements arrived at the end of their dialogue hence the decision to suspend the strike to demonstrate goodwill.
Dr. Keelson was however hopeful their concerns would be addressed with a sense of urgency.
He said: “We had a congress at the Accra Technical University so at the congress we decided to suspend the strike. We thought that in the interest of our students, parents and mother Ghana we need to demonstrate good faith and so we decided to suspend the sit-down strike for now…
“We hope just as we have kept good faith, government and the various agencies will also keep good faith with us so that we don’t even revisit this issue again”.
