Cash-strapped Aayalolo grinds to a halt – GAPTE

The Greater Accra Passenger Transport Executive (GAPTE), operators of the Quality Bus System (QBS) popularly known as ‘Aayalolo buses’, have suspended operations due to lack of funds.

The situation, which has persisted for about three weeks, has seen all Aayalolo buses in Accra parked at the terminal, while passengers switch to other forms of public transportation.

This is not the first time the QBS has seen some challenges.

In July this year, drivers embarked on a sit-down strike to press home their demand for salaries which had been in arrears for five months.

The management of Aayalolo buses has attributed the current challenges to lack of funds to keep the system running.

Speaking to Class News, Mr Fred Chidi, Public Affairs Manager of GAPTE said: “Our buses have been parked because we don’t have money”.

The Transport Ministry said it is in talks with managers of the QBS as well as relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution to the challenges.
