IT expert donates to Ankaful to promote quality education

 

An Information Technology (IT) expect and native of Ankaful, a fishing community near Saltpond in the Central region, Ike Ewuah Mensah, has donated assorted educational materials to the schools in the community, as part of his ‘Every Child Must Read’ programme.

The programme, initiated in 2018, is aimed at equipping crèche levels at the schools in the community, presented educational materials like exercise and text books, crayons, playing cards, to increase schools’ enrollments and promoting quality education.

The donation which was at a total of cost GHC2,800, took place on Friday, March 22, 2019, and was received by the Proprietress of Gift Vision International School, Madam Gifty Adu, on behalf of the schools.

Presenting the items, Mr. Ewuah Mensah said “as a native of this community, it’s my honor to contribute to the development of quality education in this community. Though these items are not enough, it will encourage and boost teaching and learning, especially increasing the reading skills of the children,” he said.

“As part of the drive, reading books and other items will be donated not only to the crèche, but all those at the primary levels will also benefit,” he assured.

Mr. Ewuah Mensah also donated assorted drugs to the community for the use by the Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) to also improve quality health delivery in the area.

The medicines were donated through the support of Direct Relief, USA, an NGO who assists third world countries with drugs free of charge, and facilitated by the CEO of Peace and Love Hospitals, Dr. Mrs. Beatrice Wiafe Addai.

He cautioned them not to sell the drugs to patients to conform to the agreements and conditions set by the supplier (Direct Relief), in order not to forfeit future supplies.

The Municipal Director of Health Services for the area, Madam Ama Kwansimah, receiving the drugs, thanked him, expressed her gratitude and promised not to sell the drugs to patients as they were given freely.

The chief of Ankaful, Nana Ntsiful V, on behalf of the people on the community, thanked Mr. Ewuah Mensah for the donations and promised to personally to supervise that the education materials and drugs are properly put in good use.

He used the occasion to appeal to citizens in and out of the community to emulate Ewuah Mensah for the development of the community.
