Kumasi: Asokwa MP visits flood victims

The Member of Parliament for Asokwa in the Ashanti Region, Hon. Patricia Appiagyei (Mama Pat), on Thursday May 23, 2019 visited some victims affected by a heavy rainstorm in the constituency and some parts of the Ashanti region last Monday and Tuesday.

The affected areas included some parts of Atonsu Kuwait and S-Line with 30 houses so far been affected rendering over 200 residents homeless.

The heavy down pour destroyed properties running to several thousands of cedis.

The MP during her one-day visit to the affected areas mentioned that she sympathised with them and promised to assist them put things back to normal and to ease up the pressure the victims are currently going through.

“I am worried about the destructions and i thought it wise to pay them visit and familiarise with them to know the extent of damage as the MP and see what can be done to assist victims” the Sompahemaa as affectionately called stated.

Hon. Patricia Appiagyei who doubles as a deputy minister for Environment, science and Technology therefore pledged to find ways to help the victims but however appealed to NADMO and other cooperate bodies to come on board.

She was accompanied by the Asokwa Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) Hon. Akwanuasa Gyimah, officials from the NADMO Assemblyman for Atonsu Agogo North electoral area Hon. Eric Osei (Prof) and some officials of the Municipal Assembly as well as some party executives.

Hon. Akwanuasah Gyimah MCE for the Asokwa Municipality however urged the residents to restrain calm as the cause of the flood had been identified and a lasting solution was underway to address the menace. He added that a Chinese company “CHICO CHINA” whom are in charge of the main Ahinsan to Atonsu dual carriage have been tasked to dredge and expand the drainage system in the area to avoid such incident in the future.

Meanwhile Assemblyman for the Atonsu Agogo North electoral area Hon. Eric Osei called on the Assembly and M.P to come to their aid as times were hard for them. According to him, the issue of flood has been a major headache for residents in the area and therefore must be addressed soon as they have promised.
