Ghana’s giant telecommunication network MTN Ghana has launched the 10th anniversary of their Mobile Financial Service with various promotions offers and has urged Mobile Money (MoMo) subscribers to be security vigilant in order to safeguard their wallets.
Mr. Simon Amoh, the northern sector General manager of MTN Ghana who launched the anniversary on the theme; “MoMo@10 ….. Making Life Simple” at the Dr Mensah market square in Kumasi on Tuesday said the service would provide continuous best security for subscribers.
He commended staff, MoMo subscribers, government, regulators,. Partners and the media for the enormous work done over the years towards the success achieved over the past decade.
Speaking at a mini durbar to mark the anniversary, Mr. Amoh stated that MTN Ghana as a company was proud of the feat achieved over the years, having made it possible for the unbanked population to find a means of banking, adding that, MoMo had now made it possible for insurance, payment of bills, purchase of treasury bills, savings and investment among others.
Simon Amoh said in appreciation of the contribution of customers to the success of MoMo, the company had planned a number of activities, including a promotion for subscribers to win various prizes from now till August.
According to him, MTN is giving away 10 cars and lots of other mouth-watering prizes including instant mobile money loaded into the accounts of some subscribers who were present at the durbar. He said over the last decade of their existence, the company had leant a lot under regulation, which had contributed to transforming the business making it possible for interest payment of savings done in customer’s wallet.
The MTN Northern sector General manager said although MoMo had come a long way with many positive stories,there was still a lot more to be done in dealing with the menace of social engineering, which creates fraud situations. He said the company would continue it’s efforts at educating the masses through the media, the police and the judiciary to better understand how the system works to help in curbing fraud.
The MTN Ghana officially launched the MoMo service on July 21,2009.
Mr. Amoh said the service had succeeded in reducing the long queues to make payments for services and products which had relieved the burden of people walking to look for cash. He however commended stakeholders for making MoMo service thrive and promised a better delivery of service to all subscribers in coming years.
Mayor of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi who graced the occasion lauded MTN Ghana for their efforts and support to the Kumasi City and the country at large in terms of developmental projects and creation of employment for the youth and called on other telcos to emulate.
The Manhyia Divisional police Commander ACP Kwaku Boah who was at the event also appealed to MTN to build a rehabilitation center for drug addicts in Kumasi to treat addicts.
