The race for the running mate position of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) is getting hotter as many party big shots jostle for the position.

Many names including that of the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asideu Nketia, popularly known as General Mosquito, have popped up as those likely to be chosen by NDC flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.

The decision by General Mosquito to acquire Master Degree in Defense and International Affairs at the Kofi Annan Peacekeeping Training Centre has given more credence to speculations that he is preparing himself for the second gentleman position.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in the school, the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia on a lighter note teased the NDC General Secretary who was part of the graduating students.

He jokingly said Mr Nketia decided to acquire the Master Degree to brighten his chances of being selected as running mate ahead of the 2020 general election.

 “He came here to beef up the intellectual capacity of the NDC and enhance his case for being selected as the running mate,” the vice president said.

Dr Bawumia congratulated General Mosquito for proving that age is not a barrier for acquiring knowledge.

 “More seriously, I really want to congratulate my friend Johnson Asiedu Nketia. He has shown that it can never be too late to acquire knowledge,” he added.
