The Constituency Chairman of the Bekwai Constituency in the Ashanti Region, Mr Patrick Adu Gyamfi, is alleged to have locked up the party’s office on Monday, 27 January 2020 in order to prevent potential MP-aspirants from picking nomination forms.
Supporters of one of the parliamentary hopefuls, Akwasi Amofa Agyeman, alleged that the office remained locked as of 5 p.m. on Monday and, thus, accused the Chairman of frustrating them in order to allow the incumbent MP, Joseph Osei-Owusu, to go unopposed.
They accused Mr Adu Gyamfi of bias, and threatened to storm the party’s office until their candidate is allowed to pick the forms.
The aggrieved supporters claimed Mr Adu Gyamfi refused to pick phone calls from potential aspirants.
“We have made the payment of GHS2,000 at the NPP’s national headquarters in Accra as nomination fee on behalf of our candidate which guarantees us to pick up the forms but only to meet a locked-up office in the constituency. This development, though disappointing, does not come as a surprise as attempts have been made to get the incumbent MP, Joseph Osei-Owusu, to go unopposed,” they bemoaned.
But reacting to the allegations leveled against him in an interview with OTEC FM’S morning show, dubbed ‘Nyansapo on Tuesday January 28, 2020 Mr Adu Gyamfi explained: “He knows where to look for me; if he wants the forms, he can come to my personal office. I don’t know why he’s ranting on the airwaves. My secretary, who keeps the office keys, teaches at the Bekwai S.D.A SHS, so, he hadn’t reported to the office as of the time Lawyer Akwasi Amofa Agyeman and his supporters arrived”.
