Coronavirus: Zoomlion, GES disinfect Schools in Ashanti

Giant in Ghana’s waste management, Zoomlion Ghana ltd has embarked on a fumigation and disinfection exercise to cover all Senior High Schools (SHS), Technical and Vocational Education and Training Schools (TVETS) and Special Schools in Ashanti region.

The exercise which is under the auspices of Ministry of Education (MoE) seeks to rid-off bedbugs, mosquitoes, cockroaches, flies, ants, reptiles, rodents among others which normally distracts the effective learning environments of students.

The exercise came off on Thursday April 23 with about 20 schools benefiting for the start as the remaining schools are expected to be attended to in the next few days.

Some Senior High Schools visited were Serwaa Nyarko SHS, Sakafia Islamic SHS, Ejisu Senior High Technical, KNUST SHS,St. Monicas SHS and others saw the team busily fumigating school dormitories, classrooms, laboratories, offices, staff bungalows, drains, mattresses, chop boxes among others.
Heads of the beneficiary schools expressed appreciation to the Education Ministry together with the Ghana Education Service and Zoomlion for undertaking this important health service.

Headmistress for the Ejisu Senior High Technical school Madam Veronica Tandoh said, the exercise was timely especially as students are about to start serious academic works and there is the need to ensure that anything that disrupts smooth academic learning is taken care of.

The heads of the other visited schools also urged parents to begin fumigation exercise in their various homes as most students brings bedbugs from the house when returning to their schools from vacations.

Speaking with an interview with OTEC fm’s Evans Agyei Sikapa, Head of communications for the Zoomlion Ghana ltd Madam Emma Akyea Boakye explained that exercise in an interview explained the two-week exercise is to ensure the successful implementation of the Governments flagship Free SHS Programme under a conducive learning environment for students.

According to her, the exercise comes at a time that all pragmatic measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus must be activated.
The planned disinfection and fumigation of schools comes on the heels of a similar exercise carried out by District Assemblies nationwide to disinfect market places.
Madam Akyea Boakye revealed that, Zoomlion has extended its disinfection exercise to Corporate Ghana. This concerns disinfecting corporate organizations and other institutions at a discounted fee to help mitigate the spread of covid- 19 and other insects which causes harm to human.
