Face shields without masks not acceptable in banking halls and all banking facilities – GAB

The Ghana Association (GAB) has directed banks to turn away customers who report to the banking halls and other banking places with only face shield.

The GAB says the shield must be accompanied with the face mask and other COVID-19 safety protocols.

A press release which was copied to otecfmghana.com says “the association wishes to announce for the information of the general public that customers, service providers and visitors to all banking facilities including but not limited to the Head Office Buildings of Banks, Bank Branches, ATM stations and Bank Cash Centres must endeavour to wear masks, thoroughly wash their hands with water and soap provided at all banking facilities and observe the protocols advertised in the Banking Halls and
other service points”.

The statement said” in the interest of protecting everyone else from contracting COVID-19 in and around banking facilities, all banks shall insist on this basic protocol and users of our facilities who do not comply shall not be admitted into our premises and will be advised to use alternative channels such as digital solutions using their personal devices”.

The GAB noted that “the Ghana Medical Association and the West African College of Surgeons, in light of emerging scientific releases, have in a statement advised the public against the use of face shields alone
as it does not provide the needed protection against COVID-19 given the potential airborne spread of the virus”.

“As a result, with immediate effect, users of face shields without masks
shall not be admitted to any banking facility”.

The GAB explained that”as an association, we have in the interest of our staff, customers, service providers and all other users of our facilities implemented enhanced COVID-19 protocols to make our banking
environment safe and compliant with COVID-19 related workplace guidelines”.

*COVID-19 is real so we entreat everyone to stay safe”, the statement urged.
