Nana Addo is not COVID-19 positive – GMA Preisdent

The President of the Ghana Medical Association Dr, Frank Ankobia has stated that President Nana Akuffo-Addo is not positive to the novel Coronavirus disease as being speculated by a section of the public since the announcement of the President’s two-week isolation over the weekend by the Information Ministry.

According to the Ghana Medical Association President, the fact that the President has voluntarily  opted to self-isolate does not necessarily mean he was positive to the disease, adding that the President’s decision to be quarantined was an act of bravery and emulative as a leader.

Speaking to Captain Koda on OTECFM on Monday July 6, 2020 and monitored by Asante-Yeboah Benedict, Dr. Frank Ankobea noted, “from my understanding of 14 days quarantine does not mean the President is positive to the COVID-19.

It just means he might have been exposed to the disease by someone within his circle and it was prudent and reasonable on the part of the President to quarantine for the stipulated period. I know during the days of the quarantine his medical team would assess, monitor and test to verify the level of the exposure.”

Touching on the level of the COVID-19 cases, Dr. Frank Ankobea expressed utmost disapproval on the rising figures of the disease adding that members of the Ghana Medial Association were traumatized by the trend.

He however charged the government to make available Personal Protective Equipments to all the medical facilities in the country to help protect the safety of the medical officers, insisting the PPEs are just consumables that needed to be in mass quantity.

He therefore chastised the public to make it the habit to continuously observe the protocols since that was the surest way to prevent the widespread of the disease, adding that the failure on the part of the public to observe them was the major contributing factors to the spread.

Dr, Frank Ankobea implored,” we must all advise the public to entirely observe the protocols because there was no vaccines for the disease now. The Ghana Medical Association is currently worried about the rising figures. We as members are doing our best to contain the disease but most people are not adhering to the protocols. Some people are wearing no mask while boys are seen playing football as if we are back to normal life. It is unfortunate and we are all  worried as health officers.”
