Parliament has eulogized the former General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party, Kwadwo Owusu Afriyie popularly known as Sir John.
Mr Afriyie who was the Forestry Commission CEO died at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital on Wednesday after contracting Covid-19.
In brief statements on the floor, the Speaker of Parliament, Majority and Minority leaders took turns to commiserate with the family of the late lawyer.
The Majority Leader, Osei Kyei-Mensah Bonsu said the news came as a shock to him adding that, Mr Owusu Afriyie was a devoted citizen who cherished the work he was doing for the people of Ghana.
He then urged citizens to use his demise to be conscious about the existence and threats Covid-19 poses to humanity.
“I think it is appropriate for all of us at this stage to pray that protection of government, the judiciary and the legislative arm of this country and indeed all public servants who are in various ways discharging their responsibilities towards the development of this country.
“One can only wish that Owusu Afriyie finds solace in the bosom of his creator and also express condolences to the immediate family,” he said.JoyNews/AdomNews · Haruna Iddrisu morns with Sir John’s family & NPP
On his part, Minority leader, Haruna Iddrisu extended his condolences to the NPP and family of the late outspoken politician.
He said, “his sudden departure has taken away from Ghanaian politics his high sense of humuor accompanied with his smile even as he jabbed.”

“His wonderful relationship with Asiedu Nketia they were very vocal in their days as General Secretaries but very good friends. And their relationship to me should be an example for us that we should not be fighting or hating eachother because we belong to different parties.
“Sometimes even in our own internal fights, we exhibit a lot of hostility and we do not need.”
