Photos: New ECOWAS Chair Akufo-Addo convenes meeting over Mali crisis

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has convened a meeting on the political situation in Mali.

The meeting is expected to chart the way forward after elements of the Malian Armed Forces began a mutiny on August 18, 2020.

The soldiers detained several government officials including the President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta who resigned and dissolved the government.

Foreign minister Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey ahead of the meeting said it will be held to proffer conflict resolution strategies in accordance with relevant protocols to bring an end to the political crisis in the West African state.

In his opening address, the Chairman of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo said the meeting forms part of the mediation process to return Mali to constitutional rule.
