Kejetia Project: KMA opens road networks to ease congestion

Authorities of Kumasi Metropolis and the management of Kejetia Redevelopment Project will open road networks around the project to the public on Sunday, December 16, 2018 to ease congestion ahead of Christmas celebration.

these include the road linking Kejetia to Dr Mensah, Pampaso to Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Roundabout and Kejetia to Suame Roundabout.

The project which is yet to be opened for commercial activities will have its road networks also tested for human and pedestrian movements, according to the Metropolitan Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Osei Assibey Antwi.

The project which costs $298 million and started in July 2015 was to be completed in January 2018 but was delayed due court matters arising from litigation between private land developers and KMA over pulling down of structures around the project.

Hon. Assibey Antwi said this during a stakeholders meeting among the traders, transport operators and the contractors of the project at the Culture Centre on Tuesday, December 11, 2018, on the distribution of stalls to the traders.

“As the Christmas is near, a lot of marketing activities are been taken place around that area; a lot of people will be trooping to the city, vehicles too will be entering and to ensure easy and smooth movements of vehicles and human, we thought it wise to open the roads around the project for accessibility,” he added.

The Kumasi Mayor hinted that “the project is completed and it’s only left with the testing of systems like the fire, water, lights and roads. Once these are done, the project will be handed over to the KMA.
Verification and validation

KMA boss hinted that so far 998 traders have been verified and validated and will relocate them to their stalls after completion and handing over, and assured that “the Assembly will ensure transparency in the distribution of the shops to the rightful owners.”
