Asokwa Municipal Celebrates Universal Children’s Day With Awareness Creation On Rights

The Asokwa Municipal Assembly through its Social Development Department celebrated the Universal Children’s Day at New Asafo M/A Basic School on Monday, 20th November,  2023. 

The event was tailored towards raising awareness about children’s rights and welfare.

Participants included teachers, Junior High School (JHS) students, upper primary and lower primary students. 

To illustrate positive and negative attitudes influencing growth, the 85 were made to play the Snakes abd Ladder Game with the snakes representing negative attitudes while the ladder represented positive attitudes. 

Details;
The Upper Primary had 92 students participating in a “Who does what” fashcards activity, emphasizing that all career paths are open to everyone, regardless of gender. 

112 pupils from the Lower Primary level were taken through child rights and responsibilities using flash cards.

Participating teachers, including the Headmistresses from 17 schools participated in a session on “Individual responsibilities towards the growth of a child” using the “Circle of Support” method. 

The circle of support showed or explained the roles of the people in the life of a child, that will help the child’s growth in the society, school, home, church and other social gatherings.

Outcome:
The celebration increased awareness among pupils about attitudes needed for their development, understanding of diverse career paths, and were empowered to know their rights and responsibilities. 

The training provided teachers with insights into their roles in supporting children’s growth.

The engaging and interactive activities tailored for each section ensured a meaningful and impactful experience for pupils and teachers. 

The event fostered a positive environment for learning and growth, aligning with the spirit of Universal Children’s Day.

In total, 182 females and 124 males participated in the event.
