Savannah region: Eight Reported Dead From Suspected Yellow Fever
The Ghana Health Service has issued an alert announcing that there is a suspected case of yellow fever recorded in the Savannah region.
Eight persons are reported to have died from the suspected yellow fever.
According to a statement issued by Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, Director General of the Ghana Health Service , samples taken to test for other viral infections such as Ebola, Lassa, Marbug and Zika have proved negative.
The statement indicates that the affected persons were nomads from slated communities in the West and North Gonja Districts in the region.
The Ghana Health Service has therefore advised the public to avoid mosquito bites or vaccinate against yellow fever if they had never taken it.
It adds that persons who have have fever, general weakness, headache, nausea and vomiting to immediately report to the nearest facility especially when you have yellowish discoloration of your eyes.
“A team of experts from the Ghana Health Service, Centre for Disease Control,World Health Organization,and Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research have been dispatched to support the region to investigate and Institute appropriate control measures” the statement added.
