National Immunisation Day Celebration: Ashanti Regional Health Directorate targets 400,000 for vaccination against covid

The Ashanti Regional Health Directorate has said 400,000 people have been targeted for vaccination against COVID-19 in the upcoming National Immunisation Day Celebration.

The National Immunisation Day celebration is scheduled to take place from today, Wednesday, 2 February to Sunday, 6 February 2022 across the country.

Addressing the media in Kumasi on Tuesday, 2 February 2022, Ashanti Regional Deputy Health Director, Dr Michael Rockson Adjei said the vaccination exercise will take place in all government health facilities across the region.

Dr Adjei noted that efforts have been ramped up to ensure a successful vaccination exercise.

“What is special is that we’re deploying more staff and logistics. Teams will be moving around to vaccinate people, we have started campaign, we’re using all the approaches to ensure that people get vaccinated.”

“We’ll be giving first dose, second dose, booster doses, vaccination of pregnant women, vaccination of persons 15 to 17. In fact any person 15 years and above qualifies to be vaccinated,” the Ashanti Regional Deputy Health Director stated.

The region has so far administered over 2.3 million Covid-19 vaccines since the commencement of the vaccination exercise across the country.

About 1.6 million people have at least taken one dose of the vaccine while 860,000 people have been fully vaccinated.

The Regional Deputy Health Director urged people in the region who are yet to be immunised to take advantage of the National Immunisation day exercise to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
